About My Practice

I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT)* in private practice in Berkeley working with clients during adulthood or adolescence.  Over the many years that I have practiced as a psychotherapist, I have had the privilege of helping many clients confront, work through, and overcome significant hurdles which were holding them back from reaching their life goals.  Although each client comes into therapy with unique challenges, many of those who have come seeking personal growth have been experiencing one or more of the following issues:

·       Sadness, depression or grief

·       Anxiety, anger, stress, fear, or panic that interferes with meeting goals

·       Low self-esteem, lack of confidence, poor self image

·       Panic

·       Specific phobias – i.e., fear of flying, driving, bridges etc.

·       Social phobia

·       Weight Loss and Management

·       Relationship problems or interpersonal issues with others at home, at work, and socially

·      Wanting to feel “un-stuck” or seeking to improve your quality of life, create a thoughtful life plan, and implement life changes

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I can help you to learn more effective strategies to use in addressing your particular challenges.  CBT is evidence based treatment; we will use empirically tested techniques to reduce your anxiety or depression and to help you to implement new thoughts and behaviors.  We will explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, the way you feel physically, and the environment.  We will then intervene by making changes in one or more of these areas because changes in one area naturally impact the other areas – helping you, in a very real way, to get “un-stuck”.  For example, we will make your self-critical or negative thoughts explicit and explore how those thoughts affect your feelings and behavior.  Together, we will set measurable goals and work collaboratively in meeting those goals.

If you suspect that you are struggling with any of these issues, therapy, especially CBT focused psychotherapy, can be extremely helpful.  I would be happy to talk with you to get an understanding of your particular situation and how I might be of assistance to you.

My practice is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically North Berkeley in the East Bay.  Please call me at 925.352.0007 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
